Part 1: Types of
Journalism

Before you can fully engage in any class or subject a
student must first know and understand the primary topic(s) of the course. Anyone
can Google an answer, but that doesn’t mean you know or understand the
answer.
* Each group must complete the following points:
· * Each group will research, explore, and discuss
the primary types of journalism.
· * Why is each type of journalism important?
· * What is the target audience of each type of
journalism?
* Each group is responsible for identifying the types of
journalism based on their own rationale. Each group must be able to explain to
the class the reasoning for their decisions on each of the three points.
You can do
your own research and/or use the following websites:
Google
Part 2: Traits of a
Journalist
To be good at any career, certain personal characteristics,
traits, and skills are required. These requirements
vary for different careers and for different fields within a career area.
Each group will explore the key characteristics, traits, and
skills a journalist must possess. Answer
each of the points listed below:
· * Identify key traits of a successful journalist
for 3 of the different types journalism you listed in Part 1 question 1.
· * Identify traits that you would not find in a successful
journalist

Google- These questions are fairly open-ended and should be
easy to find through a simple Google search.
Make sure you use reliable source and not just the first site on the
list.
Part 3: Professional Journalist
Although anyone can write about newsworthy events, a certain
level of education is expected and often required to attain full-time
employment.
Each group will complete the following points:

* * Research at least 5 colleges/universities of
your choice that offer Journalism as a major.
What are the requirements for admission to the programs at the
colleges/universities? What are the requirements to attain a degree at that
college/university?
· * What is the average salary for at least three
different types of journalist from your response in Task 1 question 1? Be sure to compare salaries for rural areas
to larger metropolitan areas for each of the different types of journalism.
· * Find at least 5 different job openings in the
field of journalism
· * Identify the area of journalism that is
currently growing the fastest
· * Identify the area(s) of journalism that
demonstrates the least growth

Part 4: Culminating Presentation
Each group will create a presentation for the class. This presentation will cover all the
information the group deems important from the previous 3 steps and any
additional information that the group learns from the webquest.
The group will decide the method of presentation. Review the expectations of the presentation before completing this step.
